The government has awarded $5 million to three different local nonprofit organizations. The money will 【小题1】(distribute) over a four-year period and is aimed at helping approximately 1, 000 homeless people in the county of Arvada.

To our surprise, the repairman 【小题8】(be) one of our first homeless students. He now owns his own air-conditioning business, plus two houses, two cars and a boat! He has a dozen employees. Roots & Shoots is an institute established in the early 1990s by Dr. Jane Goodall. The roots and shoots are you, your friends and young people all around the world.

Dr. Jane Goodall believes every individual can make a difference. What young people need to do is take action to make the world a 【小题10】(good) place for people, animals and the environment.

Chuck Wall teaches management and human relations at Bakersfield College. One day, he told his students that their homework was to perform a simple and random act of kindness. Not【小题1】(understand) the homework, the students didn't know【小题2】to do. Chuck didn't answer their questions. Instead, he encouraged his students to work it out by themselves.

One week later, the students entered the classroom and began sharing their stories【小题3】(excited). One student reported helping a poor dog【小题4】(abandon) by its owner. Another student told of hers about giving blankets away to the homeless. Gradually, more and more students developed the habit of doing such kind acts, from【小题5】they benefited a lot.

Some schools use each day of the Random Acts of Kindness Week to perform a【小题8】(differ) kind act, such【小题9】making a new friend, helping someone, doing community service or raising money for a charity. In this way, students learn to consider other people and think about how small actions can make the world a【小题10】(good) place.
