This morning, they left on a long trip to Hawaii. They were as 【小题1】(excite) as if it were their honeymoon(蜜月).

When my parents married(结婚), they had only enough money for a three-day trip fifty miles from home. They made an 【小题2】(agree) that each day they would put a dollar in a special metal box and save it for a honeymoon in Hawaii for their fiftieth anniversary(周年纪念).

Dad was a policeman, and Mom was a school teacher. They lived in a small house and did all 【小题3】(they) own repairs. Raising five children was a challenge, and sometimes money was short, 【小题4】 no matter what emergency came up, Dad would not let Mom take any money out of the “Hawaii account(账户)”. As 【小题5】 account grew, they put it in a saving account and then bought CDs.

When each of us children married, Mom and Dad gave us a small metal box and told us their secret, 【小题9】we found attractive. All five of us are now saving for our dream honeymoon. Mom and Dad never told us how much money they had managed 【小题10】(save), but it must have been fairly large because when they cashed in those CDs, they had enough for the flights to Hawaii and a hotel room for ten days and plenty of spending money.

Residents of Xiazhuang, Chongqing, used to risk their 【小题1】 (life) whenever they ventured out of the mountain village 【小题2】 (surround ) by steep cliffs(悬崖) about 1, 000 meters high. It was Mao Xianglin, head of the village, who gathered nearly all Xiazhuang's 400 villagers for a meeting 【小题3】 1997 and suggested building a road snaking long the mountains. The 8-kilometer-long road links the village, located at the bottom of a valley, to the outside world.【小题4】 it was built, it usually took the villagers more than a full day to access the outside world. Now it only needs a one-hour drive.

The construction work was rather 【小题5】 (difficult) than they imagined. 【小题6】 (stand) on the edge of the cliff , they were extremely terrified with their legs shaking. 【小题7】, when there was a dangerous situation, Mao was always the first to go. I’ve been a volunteer at Radio Lollipop since May. It is one of the best experiences that I 【小题1】(have) in the last few years.

Radio Lollipop is an international charity organization 【小题2】(found) in 1979 to provide care, comfort, games and entertainment for children in hospital. The service is provided 【小题3】(entire) by volunteers who have been specially selected and trained to make a child’s stay in hospital more interesting and 【小题4】 (little) frightened

I help out regularly 【小题5】 Monday evenings after work at the Royal Hospital. My task is to deliver a smile to the children at the wards (病房) 【小题6】might be there for a few days or even a couple of months. 【小题7】is hard to find children on Monday, as the cinema at the hospital is open on that day. Most of them tend 【小题8】(be) there.

I am thankful for this opportunity to help children at the hospital and make their stays more pleasant. The experience also helps me deal with the 【小题9】(difficulty) and challenges that I’ve been faced with in my own life. I am now more positive in helping others and realize 【小题10】 everyone goes through some pain and suffers from time to time.
