Move over millennials(千禧一代), here comes Generation Z, today's youngest group.

Born in 1995 or later, a lot of Gen Z-ers are entering into adulthood and will soon join the workforce. People of Generation Z have grown up with the internet. Policy makers, sociologists, as well as employers and marketers, are trying their best to understand these young people. So, how should we pin down the Gen Z-ers?

Most people will agree that the single biggest difference between Gen Z and other generations is how connected they are. This is a group of people who were hooked up to social media as soon as they were born. A recent Guardian article says that the average teenager in the UK has at least 150 followers on Instagram and spends around half an hour a day on Snapchat, an image messaging app. “We are the first true digital natives,” Hannah Payne, an 18-year-old UCLA student and lifestyle blogger. “I can almost create a document, edit it, post a photo on Instagram and talk on the phone at the same time, all from the user-friendly interface(界面) of my iPhone.

The Guardian also notes that young people in the UK are becoming more active in politics. Voting is just one way of making one's voice heard. Most of Generation Z are still too young to vote, says the Guardian. Instead of party politics, they focus more on single-topic issues such as feminism(男女平等)or climate change. And “much of the civil engagement and organizing they do takes place on social media rather than through traditional political structures,” according to the newspaper.

NIDA views medications as a powerful force for good in the contemporary world. They reduce and remove pain for millions of people suffering from illness and disease. They make it possible for doctors to perform complicated surgery to save lives. NIDA points out that most individuals who take these drags use them in a responsible.

Nevertheless, overuse of drugs such as opioids, central nervous system (CNS) depressants and stimulants does lead to harmful reliance in some people and is therefore becoming a serious public health concern. Although this abuse affects many people worldwide, particular trends of concern to the medical profession in the US appear among older adults, teenagers arid women.

【小题4】____________

Though it may be a surprise to many, the misuse of medications may be the most common form of drug abuse among the elderly. Dr Kenneth Schrader of Duke University, North Carolina states that although the elderly represent about 13% of the US population, those aged 65 and over account for the consumption of one third of all drugs. People in this age group use medications roughly three times more than the general population and have poorer compliance with instruction for use. In another study of elderly patients admitted to treatment programs, 70% were women who had overused medicines.

【小题5】____________

Unfortunately, this trend among women does not only affect those aged over. In general, among women and men who are using either an anti-anxiety drug or a sedative, women are twice as likely to become addicted. In addition, statistics compiled for 12-17 year olds show that teenage girls are more likely than teenage boys to begin overusing psychotherapeutic medication such as painkillers, tranquillizers, stimulants and sedatives.

There is a change of attitude toward the pink and blue divide in toys. Target, the second—largestdiscount retailer(折扣零售店)in the US, announced in 2015 that it would get rid of signs labeling(标记) toys for boys or for girls. A UK campaign called Let Toys Be Toys seeks to get retailers to stop dividing toys and books for one gender(性别)only.

Researchers have worried about the effect of having toys that were sosegregated(分开的) by gender for sometime, says Lisa Dinella, associate professor at Monmouth University.

Clearly divided pink and blue toys—with dolls and tea sets on one side and trucks and building blocks on the other—are actually a pretty recent development. As recently as the 1970s, toys sold in the US were not always marketed with clear gender distinctions. By the 1980s and 1990s, however, toys started to become more gender segregated, though it was still not so sharply divided as today, says Elizabeth Sweet, a lecturer in sociology at the university of California, Davis.

While it may seem like a small issue, toys help children to develop new skills, says Dinella. Dolls and pretend kitchens are good at teaching kids early language skills. Building blocks like Lego and puzzles teach skills related to space, which help set the groundwork for learning math. “Both genders lose out if we put kids on one track and they can't explore” says Dinella.

Some parents try to introduce other types of toys and get away from the strictly pink and blue divide. But it's difficult for parents to ignore the marketing and get their kids toys or costumes meant for the other gender, says Dinella. While some parents try to broaden the toys their children are ex—posed to, there is often a social cost to the child for crossing gender boundaries. “So it is hard for parents to throw out the rules,” she says.

Researchers hope that one day, toys will stop being broken up by gender and will instead be categorized by type, like puzzle toys, dolls or children's bikes. Toy choices, Sweet says, should be based on kids’ personal interests, and not on their gender.

The referee wished the two fighters luck and the bell rang. Just four seconds later, one punched the other in the nose, making him fall to the ground.

In the next 26 seconds, the man was knocked down twice more before the referee pronounced his opponent victorious.

The defeated fighter, Ma Baoguo, is a traditional martial arts practitioner who claims to be a "master of Hunyuan tai chi". But when his skills were tested in May, he was knocked out by an ordinary fighter.

Yet his popularity has risen after that failure as he delivered a short address to audiences via video and some of his words were picked out and spread on social networks and he has become something of a social media sensation.

Just by wearing traditional clothes and giving the discipline, Ma came up with a name. Actually, Ma is far from being a traditional martial arts "master". On the contrary, he is harming traditional martial arts. Not surprisingly, it took just one punch from an amateur to knock the mask off. He blamed his younger competitor for lacking the martial arts virtues, but he is the one that lacks them.

Some people say this is not a problem because people can tell what sort of person Ma is and just treat him like a clown. But it is a problem because others seek to profit from it.

Worse than his own deeds are what has happened around him. Obviously, there are some who seek commercial profit. Young people who are not mature enough to distinguish right from wrong might really worship Ma as a "master". That's something we must warn people to pay attention to.

【小题1】How many times was Ma Baoguo knocked down by his competitor?
A.Just one.B.Two times.C.Three times.D.Many times.
【小题2】What do you think of the performance of Ma Baoguo in the boxing?

C.He is thought highly of.D.He set the young a good example.
【小题3】Which of the following do you think is NOT right while facing such social hot?
A.It would be wise for Ma to stop his wrong doings of hyping up himself.
B.The social network platforms should stop providing a stage for Ma.
C.Stricter rules should prevent such cases from happening again.
D.Social media networks provide a stage for us to perform ourselves fully.
