Lewis and his co-workers carried out their study by videotaping the families while they ate ordinary meals in their own homes. They found that parents with small families talk actively with each other and their children. But as the number of children gets larger, conversation gives way to the parents’ efforts to control the loud noise they make. That can have an important effect on the children." In general the more question-asking the parents do, the higher the children’s IQ scores," Lewis says. "And the more children there are, the less question-asking there is."
The study also provides an explanation for why middle children often seem to have a harder time in life than their siblings(兄弟,姐妹). Lewis found that in families with three or four children, dinner conversation is likely to center on the oldest child, who has the most to talk about, and the youngest, who needs the most attention. “Middle children are invisible,” says Lewis. “When you see someone get up from the table and walk around during dinner, chances are that it’s the middle child.” There is, however, one thing that stops all conversation and prevents anyone from having attention: “When the TV is on,” Lewis says, “dinner is a non-event(扫兴的事).”

After an extremely long work day, all you’d like to do is relax. While lounging on the couch is super inviting, it isn’t totally productive. I’m not saying you need to write a novel overnight or start a new company.
Unplug
Spend time on a hobby
Instead of devoting hours to something less meaningful after work, why not learn a new skill?
Cooking, public speaking, poetry writing, ballet; the list goes on and on.

Walk Out of the Comfort Zone and Try New Things
For most high school students, free periods (课,节) are useless. From what I have seen, few do homework.
In my 8th grade, I was told that I had to take an art class as a graduation requirement; so in the 9th grade I took Studio and Art. One of the projects was to build a clay pot, but I built mine incorrectly, so it broke in the kiln (窑).
Half of all college students change their major at some point. By doing that hundreds of dollars are wasted on classes that they would have never needed to take. So use our extra periods to find out what we want to do in college.
A.Our school offers many classes |
B.We should find out what we are good at |
C.I’ve avoided anything related to art since then |
D.Instead, many are on their phones and talking |
E.I found out that I have no artistic ability at all |
F.Walk out of our comfort zone and try new things |
G.The classes we choose can influence us in the future |
