Yuan Longping, known 【小题1】 the “father of hybrid rice”, is one of China’s most famous scientists. Yet, he 【小题2】 himself a farmer because he continually works the 【小题3】 in his research. Indeed, his slim but【小题4】 body is just like that of millions of Chinese farmers, to whom he has 【小题5】 his life.

Yuan Longping was born in 1930 in Beijing. His parents wanted him to pursue a career in science or medicine. However, 【小题6】 concerned him most was that farmers often had poor 【小题7】 and sometimes even had a serious 【小题8】 of food to eat. To 【小题9】 this crisis, he chose to study agriculture and received an 【小题10】 at Southwest Agricultural College in Chongqing.

In 1831, Darwin left 【小题1】 on the ship, the Beagle. After Darwin had spent some time in 【小题2】, he collected 【小题3】. As he studied these, he noticed that some species of animals were very 【小题4】 each other, and he wondered how different species came to exist.  

When the Beagle reached the Galápagos Islands in 1835, Darwin noticed that there was 【小题5】 the birds’ finches on each of the islands. Darwin suspected that the finches had evolved from 【小题6】 and over time, it had slowly evolved into 【小题7】. And that was the answer to how new species of plants and animals came to exist: they 【小题8】.  

It was a completely new idea — 【小题9】. Darwin explained this theory in his book, On the Origin of Species. Today, it is regarded as one of the most important works ever written. It has changed 【小题10】 forever.

One medical text from the fourth century suggested using the e【小题1】 from sweet wormwood to treat a fever. Tu’s team t【小题2】 a collection of dried wormwood leaves but found no e【小题3】.They then tried boiling fresh wormwood, and using the l【小题4】 obtained from this to treat malaria, but this did not work either. Their project got s 【小题5】.However, Tu Youyou would not a【小题6】defeat. She analysed the medical texts a【小题7】, and by c【小题8】, she found one sentence suggesting a d【小题9】way to treat the wormwood. She concluded that boiling the sweet wormwood apparently destroyed its medial p【小题10】.
