Interschool Sports Programme

Interschool Sports Programme is coming. It will start on 30th April and end on 15th June.

Students in our school will join the boys' basketball games. Each Wednesday the players will travel by bus to Sports Centre, Erinvale Street, Corinda. They will leave school at 12: 20 p.m. It will take them about 20 minutes to get there. The games will begin at 1:00 p.m. and end at 2:30 p.m. Players must wear their school clothes and sports shoes. It will be great if they can bring large water bottles.

If you are good at playing basketball and want to join the games, please go to Mr. David's office (Room503) before 15th April to fill in form. We will choose 15 players.

Volunteers are also needed. Anyone who wants to be a volunteer needs to send an email to Mr David (davidss@qq.edu.au) to introduce yourself before 20th April.

Zoos give people a chance to get close to animals from every continent in the world. But zoos that offer more than just a chance to see animals are worth visiting. Singapore Zoo

The Bronx Zoo in New York City houses 6,000 animals. Those who want to sleep with zebras (斑马) have a chance at this zoo. Special overnight journeys allow families to camp out on the zoo grounds and meet some amazing animal guests.

The Taronga Zoo in Sydney, Australia offers special animal contact. Visitors can see a koala up close, feed a giraffe or hold a reptile. For those who want to learn what it’s like to work at a zoo, Taronga offers a “Keeper for A Day” program for anyone over 18 years old.

At Southern California’s San Diego Zoo, animals live in natural-looking areas. Wildlife photography (摄影) lovers can take a class to learn the secrets of photographing animals. The zoo offers people opportunities to meet a lion or feed a rhino. The zookeepers also teach people how to talk to the animals so they will talk back.

On tonight’s program, “Reflections,” Christopher Hutton will perform selections from J.S. Bach’s Suites (组曲) for Solo Cello and music by later composers inspired by Bach. Originally from Wellington, New Zealand, Hutton is the cellist (大提琴演奏家) of the Poinsett Piano Trio. He has performed widely and has recorded for New Zealand’s Concert FM, Germany’s SWF Radio, and appears on a disc of contemporary music on Albany Classics.

When we think of great composers we often think of “the three B’s” Bach, Beethoven, Brahms. Tonight, however, the NGU symphony will perform works by two of these composers with another great composer whose name also begins with B, Bizet. The program will begin with Bizet’s L’Arlesienne Suite No. 2, from his opera The Girl from Arles. Next is Beethoven’s Symphony No. 4.

This evening the NGU String Ensemble will perform two works, Gustav Holst’s Brook Green Suite and Edvard Grieg’s Holberg Suite. Holst wrote his suite for his students at St. Paul’s Girl’s School in 1933 desiring to provide them with a piece in a contemporary mature style that was not a “watered down” version of a classic. Both works are readily accessible by the average audience and are performed regularly.

Join us for “Love and Other Youthful Exploits: a voice recital”. Performed by soprano Serena HillLaRoche and pianist Catherine Garner. This delightful program includes vocal and piano setting of Hamlet’s “Ophelia Songs” by Richard Strauss, Joaquin Rodrigo’s “Four Madrigals of Love”; and a Richard Pearson Thomas setting of six. Also featured will be Emily Dickinson poems including “At last to be identified” and “I never saw a Moor.”
